Society for Social and Economic History

Friedrich Lütge-Prize for outstanding dissertations

Since 2005, the Society for Social and Economic History has awarded a prize every two years for outstanding dissertations in the field of social and economic history. The prize is named after the founding chairman of the GSWG, Friedrich Lütge. Under the leadership of Friedrich Lütge and with the participation of Wilhelm Abel, Hermann Kellenbenz, and Herbert Hassinger, the GSWG was founded in Frankfurt on Main on February 18, 1961. Lütge was chairman of the society from 1961 until his death in 1968.

The award of the Friedrich Lütge-Prize is decided by a jury of three, normally (no bias) consisting of the chairperson, the vice-chairperson and the secretary of the Society. The manuscripts must not exceed 1.3 million characters (all inclusive). The prize is endowed with 1,500 €.

For the review process, the dissertation (if applicable, the monograph, if already published, or its proofs), copies of the dissertation reviews, and a short curriculum vitae are required, each (and only) as a PDF file.
